The awkward jobs

Most fabricators are set up either for high-volume repetition or for heavy structural work. A one-off precision frame, a set of six inspection jigs, or a replacement component for a machine whose OEM has moved on falls between the two.

We can take those on because our shop already runs a wide capability range at low setup cost — the laser needs no tooling, and our tool room builds fixtures as a matter of routine.

From a sketch if necessary

A full drawing set is ideal, but we can work from a marked-up sketch, a sample part or a measured existing component. Where dimensions need establishing, our inspection equipment — surface plate, height gauge, micrometers and gauges — lets us measure and document the part properly before we make it.

We will produce the drawing as part of the job and send it to you for approval before cutting metal.

Reverse engineering and replacements

Where an original part is obsolete, we can measure the existing component, confirm material and produce a functional replacement to the same fit.

We are explicit about what we can and cannot verify: unless the original specification is available, we can match geometry and general material class, but not undocumented heat treatment or proprietary coatings. That gets stated in the quotation rather than assumed.
